Who says you can't bring the farm to the city? Create your own farm to table dinner in your own backyard. A little bit of effort can bring forth a fabulous evening for friends and family.
Create a table setting using natural elements found on the farm. I started with a burlap runner and created a center focal point using an old chicken feeder from the farm filled with moss and tealights (available on www.wmdesignhouse.com) and added olive and boxwood topiaries stagered on top of wood pedestals. Fresh herbs adorned the table and napkins along with dehydrated orange slices.
A basket filled with fresh fruits, cheeses, and other delicacies are served as a starter along with flavored waters with garden herbs and lemon chilling in a repurposed baby tub. I followed this with a chilled fresh beet salad and homemade pesto bread in mason jars. Dinner was served shortly after serving marinated flank steak, grilled vegtables and herb infused fingerling potatoes.
The final course was a freshly baked angel food cake topped with fresh peaches.
